if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity;

but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand."

America seems to have forgotten the warnings from our Founding Fathers to stay away from entangling alliances. If we had heeded those wise words, we would probably not be where we are today. However, today America is involved in an endless list of international organizations and is a signatory to a large amount of international agreements and treaties. While this is not unconstitutional, it certainly is not good for the nation to be involved in things like the UN and NATO.

While many could understand my dislike for the United Nations, more than a few are probably confused about my stance concerning NATO. Strictly speaking, I am anti-NATO. I think it is a betrayal of our self interest to intentionally make ourselves beholden to several states scattered about Europe. If you don't understand what I just said, refer to Article 5 of the NATO charter, which is infamous for saying that "an attack on one [member state] is an attack on all". Under this agreement which we are part of, we would be obligated to respond militarily to any military attack on any member of NATO. Is this really a good thing?

Let us consider a completely fictional (although possible) scenario. Let's say that a few years in the future, a new communist government in Russia invades the former Soviet satellite states and annexes them, in an attempt to restore Russia to it's former Soviet glory. Then it invades the rest of Eastern Europe, enslaving millions. Soon enough, the Red Army is on the border with a random NATO member state in Europe. As is to be expected, the Russian troops pour over the border and sack the capitol. It soon conquers the rest of the country and summarily absorbs it into the new Russian empire.

If this happened, we'd be expected to respond militarily, thus starting WWIII and a subsequent nuclear holocaust. While we probably would respond militarily to this aggression even if we weren't a NATO member, we'd have the choice to stay neutral if we wanted to. However, because we are a NATO member state, we would be obligated to declare war, whether we wanted to or not. Of course, we probably could break the treaty and disobey our obligations to our fellow NATO member states, but that just wouldn't be right, and anti-American sentiments worldwide would hit an all-time high if we were to do that.

If anything like this ever happened, America would be dragged into WWIII against it's will. Why would be subject ourselves to such a dangerous pact with countries that don't even really like us? Why in God's name are we obligated to defend France or Germany against a military attack? I think it is high time that we either a) dissolve NATO or b) pull out of it before a scenario like the one described above happens. Even if the scenario described above doesn't happen, there is bound to be a land war in Europe some time in the future. War is an inevitability in the region, especially in the light of recent Russian aggression.

Let me for a minute return to the issue of the United Nations. We should also pull out of this international body and cut off all funding to it and agencies associated with it, such as UNICEF and others. Also, we should kick it out of New York. Why is this body, which so often is anti-American, allowed to reside on American soil? Let the UN Headquarters move to somewhere like Geneva or Brussels. The UN in and of itself is a threat to American soverignty, as it is essentially a blueprint for a world government which has not yet appeared.

It is my belief that the United States, after having pulled out of these dangerous international agreements and alliances, should return to an isolationist foreign policy; a foreign policy in which America is friendly towards all, and acts with malice towards none (unless we are threatened militarily). Under such a foreign policy, anti-American sentiments worldwide would subside and our economy would boom. Why we haven't returned to isolationism by now is something I cannot understand. Perhaps America's politicians should spend less time implementing their own personal agendas and humble themselves by reading the words of our Founders and implementing their agenda for America, which is strict adherence to the Constitution.

"Those who profess to favor freedom and yet appreciate advocation, are people who want crops without plowing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning, they want the ocean without the roar of its many waters.  The struggle may be a moral one or it may be a physical one or it may be both, but it must be a struggle power conceives nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will.  Every one of us just keeps demanding to keep fighting, keep thundering, keep plowing, keep theiving, keep struggling til justice is served." - Fredrick Douglas
