
(Hugh Jidette – a play on the phrase “Huge Debt” – is a fictional presidential candidate who has been created to capture the attention of the nation and bring to light the facts about our federal fiscal challenges and the threats they pose to our nation’s economic future. As his name suggests, Hugh Jidette is a satirical character, and his policy positions sound strange and unbelievable. However, all of the facts and figures that Hugh cites are entirely true (unfortunately). He and his absurd platform ironically represent the sad truth about the “status quo” and our nation’s current fiscal path. Through a humorous advertising campaign that drives home a serious message, we hope to inform millions of Americans about our fiscal challenges and engage them in calling on Washington for real solutions.)
By making changes now, we can set America on a new course. By rising above partisanship and working together, we can make a plan to live within our means and preserve the American tradition of increasing prosperity for future generations.
In order to put our federal government on a new path, we will need to look at all areas of the federal budget. By understanding and considering the options in these areas, we can support elected leaders from both political parties who want to do the right thing, and design a plan that helps us live within our means.
