if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity;

but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand."

Obama to Voters: You Are Not ‘Thinking Clearly’

by Jim Lakely

Paul Mirengoff at the excellent Power Line blog pulls a quote from one of President Obama’s latest attempts to explain away what every poll shows: The public is not happy with what’s gone on in Washington the last two years.

According to Politico, Obama said this to “several dozen” donors in the friendly confines of Massachusetts:

“Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now and facts and science and argument does not seem to be winning the day all the time is because we’re hardwired not to always think clearly when we’re scared,” Obama said Saturday evening in remarks at a small Democratic fundraiser. “And the country’s scared.”

Obama told the several dozen donors that he was offering them his “view from the Oval Office.” He faulted the economic downturn for Americans’ inability to “think clearly” and said the burden is on Democrats “to break through the fear and the frustration people are feeling.”

As Paul notes in his blog post, Obama didn’t have much beef with the way voters were thinking when, at the height of a financial panic in late 2008, “the nation elected an inexperienced, smooth-talking leftist to its highest office.”

No. At that point, Obama had great faith in the wisdom of the American people. As for science … it’s hard to say what Obama is getting at. But the “dismal science” of economics has little faith — or at least it should have little faith — in the spend-now-tax-later Keynesian solutions Obama and the lefties in Congress have prescribed for the nation’s fiscal woes.

If only the people had more faith in a plan that is demonstrably not working, everything would — at least in Obama’s eyes — be OK. Unfortunately, the American people keep disappointing our president.
