Obama is going to be lonely, after he gets back from vacation with his entourage that is. I hope this is true but will the Democrats that are running from him now just run right back if they win?
Either way, the Democrats that remain in the leftover Congress will be lashing out at the nation for sweeping so many out.
Obama will be angry and in full defense mode when the new Congress is seated in January. When the new Congress gets in and starts cutting your programs and blocking your spending don't get mad or question their moves! They will just be trying to clean up the big mess they inherited!
Lets us pray that the Rebublicans who wish to repeal ObamaCare dominate those who would be content altering certain aspects of it. The whole plan needs to be tossed out. The Republican “Pledge” they introduced a few weeks ago had some ideas of merit for repair of the system so maybe we will see some useful work on the issue. Maybe the drastic nonsense in Obama's plan is what was needed to slap the Republicans into developing something logical.
One topic that won't die, no matter how hard we keep trying to kill it, is impeachment. We absolutely must not try to impeach this President. Impeached Presidents always complete their terms. To remove a President who has been impeached two thirds of the Senate must vote in favor of removal. That will not happen. The bst estimates show Democrats maintaining 49 or 50 of the 100 Senate seats. Therefore, at least 16 of them would need to join the rest in voting for removal. Remember too that this assumes every non-Democrat would vote for removal. That is assuming a lot.
Once a sitting President survives removal through impeachment that ends the efforts. From that point on they cruise safely to the end of their full term. That is not what we want so please, no more calls for impeachment. There are legitimate arguments for challenging the legal qualifications for this man to be in there at all. These should be pursued. Obama has a team of lawyers running block for him on this front. He is spending huge sums to defend himself against this inquiry. Why spend the money if there is nothing there to threaten him. Pursue this. Steve King (Rep. Iowa) will keep this alive in Congress as will a few others.
I hear from many who argue that the simple act of beginning impeachment proceedings secures his validation as President. After all, the Constitution does state that Presidents are subject to impeachment. The people who favor this logic maintain that he does not qualify for impeachment since he does not qualify as President in the first place. Interesting but it sounds like a big muddy mess of the kind lawyers love to play in.
We have some very historical moments bearing down on us. For as much as the future will note the election of Barack Obama it cannot do so without acknowledging the fierce nature of the opposition his policies inspired. Will history also recall that he hit the ground running in an effort to become the most divisive President we've ever seen?
I cannot shake the feeling that the real history of this Presidency will come from events that we cannot yet imagine. But, that is for another day....
