if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity;

but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand."

Investigating imam's 'religious outreach' trips

A public-interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption has filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit to find information related to taxpayer-funded "religious outreach" trips taken by the Muslim imam spearheading the "Ground Zero" mosque project.

Judicial Watch wants the Obama State Department to release documents related to the taxpayer-funded travels of imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who has created national outrage for proposing to build an Islamic center just a stone's-throw from the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

President Tom Fitton explains that his group filed its request August 16, but even though the State Department acknowledged the request, it did not respond by September 24, as the law requires.

Tom Fitton"The Obama State Department, which pretends to be part of the most transparent administration in history, has done nothing but stonewall our request," Fitton laments. "So we had to sue under the Freedom of Information Act, which is the open records law, to get access to basic documents about this taxpayer-financed trip."

Considering the lack of response, he wonders what the Obama State Department is trying to hide.

"They're going to be an embarrassment for the Obama administration because they're sending this guy abroad...seeming to represent the United States in its Muslim outreach effort, and this person is a supporter of radicalism and a defender of terrorism," the Judicial Watch president points out. "Any more details about that trip, no matter what they are, they don't want coming out, and that's why we had to sue."

Fitton suspects the records might reveal whether or not Rauf used the trip to seek foreign funding for the 9/11 mosque, which he claims he did not do.
